Hohhot Minzu College is a higher education institution directly under the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, designated as a key construction university by the Autonomous Region. It is co-established by the People's Government of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and the State Ethnic Affairs Commission. Founded in 1953 with the care and support of Comrade Ulanhu, the college traces its origins to the Inner Mongolia Mongolian Language College and the Inner Mongolia Ethnic Normal School. These institutions merged in 2000 to form the Inner Mongolia Ethnic Junior College. The institution was upgraded to a full-fledged undergraduate college in 2009 and renamed Hohhot Minzu College.
